Buying a used Japanese import in Jamaica: what to check

Most cars on Jamaican roads are Japanese imports. Many are excellent, but some hide problems.

Before you pay

  • Scan for stored fault codes (cleared codes are a red flag)
  • Check the CVT/auto fluid colour and smell
  • Look for rust under the car and in the boot
  • Confirm the mileage is consistent with wear

“Not sure what's wrong? Send us a short video on WhatsApp and we'll tell you if it can wait or needs attention now.”
